Croft is een van de oudste portshippers uit de Douro. Het in 1588 opgerichte huis geniet een grote reputatie. De wijngaarden liggen in het hart van de Douro vallei in de Marão, een bergachtig gebied met een bodem opgebouwd uit schist. De wijngaarden zijn op terrassen aangelegd. De wortels dringen tot diep in de steenachtige bodem door om water te vinden. Croft is er als eerste in geslaagd een geheel nieuwe stijl - roségekleurde - Port te maken. Daaraan gingen grootschalige investeringen vooraf, experimenteren en langdurige proefsessies. Naast vintage port en roséport is Croft ook vermaard om zijn uitgebreide serie houtgerijpte tawny en reserveports.

En omdat Croft dit jaar zijn 430-jarig jubileum viert, brengt het een bijzondere Limited Edition port op de markt. De Croft 430th Anniversary Ruby Reserve Port is samengesteld uit de mooiste voorraden ruby ports en gebotteld in een speciale fles die eeuwenlang voor port werd gebruikt. Met deze jubileumport viert Croft zijn rijke geschiedenis op een moderne manier door te kiezen voor een fruitige stijl die ook goed aansluit bij de smaak van hedendaagse portdrinkers.

Croft 430th Anniversary. The 430th Anniversary celebrations commemorate the house's establishment in 1588 and the rich history of the oldest port company in operation. To commemorate the event, the company has decided to produce a limited edition port, the Croft 430th Anniversary Celebration Edition. The labels display re-production of the work "Sinking of the Spanish Armada in 1588" by the Dutch artist Jan Luyken, which is part of the collection of the Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam.

The wine, exclusively created for this anniversary edition, is described as follows by the Head Wine Maker, David Guimaraens: "Croft is known for its Vintage Ports with opulent fruit aromas and silky tannins. This is a superb Ruby Reserve Port, displaying all its fruity character, a hallmark of the company's distinctive style.” Tasting Notes Deep ruby black colour with a narrow purple rim. The nose opens with a fine crisp fruitiness, black cherry, blackberry and cassis, and aromas of fresh plum. Delicate floral notes of rose petal and violet emerge to provide elegance and complexity. The wine has the typical Croft roundness and smoothness offset by a fresh acidity and firm but well integrated tannins. The palate is crammed with intense berry fruit and finishes with luscious flavours of strawberry and cherry.
A superb reserve Port, displaying all the fine fruit character which is a hallmark of the Croft style. Serving Suggestions Croft 430th Anniversary is ready for drinking now. It is recommended that it be served at a temperature between 12ºC and 16ºC. Food Pairing It is perfect with cheese, especially a fine cheddar. It is also delicious with dark chocolate and wild berry desserts.

Proefnotitie

Klimaat/Terroir: Een klimaat met warme zomers en koude winters. De port is een blend van wijnen uit de Baixo en Cima Corgo. Het terroir kent elementen van kalk, kiezel en leisteen.

Vinificatie: De stijl van Croft Port is bekend op z'n fruit aroma's en zachte tannines. Deze anniversary port is een voorbeeld van deze huisstijl, en is een blend uit de reserve ruby port voorraad die Croft in de loop der jaren heeft opgebouwd.

Druiven: touriga nacional, touriga francesa, tinta roriz.

Geur en Smaak: De port is diep robijnkleurig met een paarse rand. In de geur valt direct het frisse fruit op: zwarte kers, braam, cassis en verse pruim. Dan volgen subtiele aroma’s van rozenblaadjes en viooltjes die voor elegantie en complexiteit zorgen.

Serveersuggestie: Ideaal om te serveren op een temperatuur van 15 graden.
